06/09/08 - Gatemen and All-Americans Play to 1-1 Tie
The Wareham Gatemen and Columbus All-Americans pitching staffs each allowed only 1 run as this second of three exhibition games between the two squads ended in a 1-1 tie tonight at Spillane Field in Wareham, Massachusetts. Jimmy Saris from Georgetown, Nick Peters from Stonehill College, Alex Simas from Massasoit CC and Matt Way from Washington State combined to allow only 1 run to Columbus.
Simas provided the local fans something to cheer about as he played at Spillane Field in high school; pitching for the Vikings of Wareham High School. He was impressive, not allowing an run and striking out a batter. Offensively, the Gatemen managed only 3 hits and were led by Cal State-Northridge 3B Ryan Pineda who has a single, a walk, a stolen base and scored Wareham's only run when Tom Stack-Babich from Harvard knocked in the only Gatemen run with an rbi single.
Wareham and Columbus will play one more time at Spillane Field tomorrow night at 7:00pm. Harvard RHP Max Perlman is expected to start on the mound for the Gatemen. Tune into our live broadcast at 6:45.
