06/10/08 - Columbus 8th Inning Does in Wareham in Preseason Finale
The Columbus All-Americans scored 4 runs in the top of the 8th inning to cap off a 6-4 come from behind victory over the Wareham Gatemen. The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League team leave Cape Cod with a 2-0-1 record in the three game series. Highlighting the Wareham offense was outfielder Connor Rowe from the University of Texas as he
hit two homeruns and knocked in 3 runs for the Gatemen.
Columbus took advantage of three Gatemen errors in the 8th inning and took the lead when Shortstop Matt Johnson of Wooster doubled home the go head run. Johnson and left-fielder Chris Lewis from Western Michigan led the All-Americans offense with 2 hit apiece. In addition to Rowe, Harvard firstbasemen Tyler Albright also collected two hits on the night.
On the mound, Max Perlman from Harvard started the game and pitched 3 shutout innings, striking out 3 and allowing only two hits.
The Wareham Gatemen open up the Cape Cod Baseball League regular season on Friday night at 7:00pm when the defending Western Division Champion Falmouth Commodores come to Spillane Field. The organization and the league will celebrate "John Wylde" night beginning at 5:45 with pregame ceremonies.
