06/10/08 - Falmouth Takes Opening Game at Spillane Field on "John Wylde Night" 
The Falmouth Commodores picked up where they left off in 2007 as defending Western Division Champions and defeated the Wareham Gatemen 9-2 on "John Wylde" night at Spillane Field in Wareham. Kevin Nolan from Winthrop had 3 hits; including a solo homer to lead the Commodores over the Gatemen on opening night of the Cape Cod Baseball League.

 

Matt Way (Washington State) started for the Gatemen and took the loss but pitched a strong 6 innings; striking out 4 and giving up only one earned run.  Ryan Pineda (Cal State Northridge) connected for three hits for Wareham on opening night; leading the Gatemen offense.

 

Chad Bettis (Texas Tech) pitched 5 innings of terrific relief for Falmouth and picked up the win.

 

Gatemen President John Wylde was honored before the game with an hour of ceremonies that included being honored by the Gov. of Massachusetts, Major League Baseball, The Cape Cod Baseball League and the Wareham Gatemen organization.  The Good Year Blimp flew over Spillane Field and the Fox 25 from Boston broadcast their sports news live from Spillane Field.  Much more to follow on www.gatemen.org.
