07/03/08 - Orleans Comeback Results in 3rd Straight Loss for Wareham

A 2-0 lead disappeared in the 4th inning as the Orleans Cardinals scored 3 in the bottom of the 4th and added another run in the 6th to defeat the Wareham Gatemen 4-2 in front of 2,506 at Eldredge Park in Orleans.  An Aaron Baker (Oklahoma) rbi single in the first put the Gatemen up 1-0.  Wareham doubled that lead in the 4th when Connor Rowe (Texas) doubled down the left-field line, stole third base and then scored on a Steve Liddle (Vanderbilt) rbi single.

The Orleans comeback took place in the 4th inning with 3 runs on 3 hits; highlighted by a Cole Figueroa (Florida) 2-run double to tie the score.  A wild pitch by Gatemen starting pitcher Matt Way (Washington State) allowed the go ahead run to score from third base.  Wareham could not respond and managed only a Raynor Cambell (Baylor) single for the rest of the game.

Matt Way took the loss; allowing 4 runs on 5 hits while striking out 3 batters.  Matt Bashore (Indiana) pitched well in relief; going 2 innings, allowing only 1 hit and striking out two.

The Gatemen will play the annual 4th of July game in Bourne when they take on the Braves at Doran Park at 2:00.  Max Perlman (Harvard) will get the start for Wareham.
