05/05/08 - CCBL will open the '08 Season with "John Wylde Night"
The Wareham Gatemen and the Cape Cod Baseball League will honor Gatemen President John Wylde for his 25 years of service during ceremonies on June 13th prior to opening game of the 2008 season. Prior to 7:00pm game between the Wareham Gatemen and the Falmouth Commodores, among activities planned to commemorate Mr. Wylde, the Spillane Field Pressbox will become the "John Wylde Pressbox."
John was diagnosed last September 14th with inoperable cancer of the liver and is currently undergoing treatments. Known to many Gatemen and CCBL followers for his distinct voice as the public address announcer at Spillane Field, Mr. Wylde has been a Gatemen booster, General Manager, Treasurer and President for 25 years. His dedication to the franchise, the Cape Cod Baseball League and the town of Wareham is unmatched. John is also a member of the CCBL Executive Committee and services as the chief statistician for the league.
Expected to be in attendance at Spillane Field during the June 13th ceremonies are a number of CCBL executives, Gatemen organizational members and representatives from the other 9 franchises. Additionally, town of Wareham officials and players from the Wareham Little League, Wareham American Legion and the Gateway Babe Ruth will be present to honor Mr. Wylde. Attendees can expect some "giveaways" and other special events.
