Game 4 Preview: Gatemen look to stay hot versus Commodores

FALMOUTH- The Wareham Gatemen (3-0) look to make it four wins in a row tonight as they take on the Falmouth Commodores (1-1) at 6 p.m. at Arnie Allen Diamond located on Fuller Field.

The Gatemen are coming off an impressive pitching performance yesterday in a 4-2 win over the Cotuit Kettleers. Mason Feole and Connor Lunn combined to throw eight innings of one run baseball.

Wareham’s pitching has been the key to their early season success so far. The Gatemen have a team ERA of 2.33 and have struck out 26 batters through 27 innings.

The 3-4 hitters for Wareham have also been instrumental in the team’s 3-0 record. 1B Andrew Vaughn of California and LF Bryant Packard of ECU have each hit .462 and .444 respectively.

Lower in the order, 3B Austin Shenton of FIU has been tearing the cover off the ball as well hitting .455. He has recorded base hits in all three contests this year.

In the other dugout, the Commodores are coming off a loss last night to the Bourne Braves. They lost 5-2 after winning their season opener in Hyannis 10-4.

Tonight will be the home opener for the Commodores since their originally schedule home opener versus Hyannis was rained out on Wednesday.

Catcher CJ Shaffer of Western Illinois University has been Falmouth’s top offensive performer so far. Shaffer has four hits and two RBI in his two games played.

LHP Justin Glover, a rising junior from the University of Georgia, is today’s scheduled starter for Wareham. Glover had a disappointing sophomore season for the Bulldogs as he appeared in only five games posting a 14.54 ERA. This comes off the heels of s solid freshman season when Glover posted a 3.94 ERA in 13 appearances.

This summer marks Glover’s second with the Gatemen. Glover had a great year in 2017 for Wareham. Glover went 2-1 with a 1.12 ERA in 16 total innings.

LHP Mitchell Stone will be on the hill opposing Glover today. Stone is a rising sophomore from Oklahoma State. The 6-foot 9 lefty pitched in just two games for the Cowboys this past season throwing 4.1 innings allowing three earned runs.
