Wareham Gatemen players traveled to Center School in Mattapoisett, MA this morning, June 22, to continue their reading program.
The visit to Center school marked the Gatemen’s fourth visit to a school this season for a reading program. The Gatemen had previously visited at Sippican elementary, Rochester Memorial, and Minot Forest elementary.
During this visit to Center School, players read to classes various books such as Take Me Out to the Yakyu by Aaron Meshon, a book about a boy who watches baseball games in both the states and Japan, or Randy Riley’s Really Big Hit by Chris Van Dusen, a book about a boy who builds a giant robot to save his town from a fireball.

After the readings, players took questions from the students. A couple of the questions that frequently popped up were “Who is your favorite baseball player?” and “What team would you want to play for in the MLB?”
Players signed autographs and some of the student’s yearbooks after the Q&A had finished. Some students even showed the players how to do the dance called, “The Floss.”
The Gatemen players in attendance for this morning’s event were Easton Lucas, Connor Lunn, Andrew Vaughn, Zach Hart, Tyler Keysor, Jared Horn, Bryant Packard, and Bryson Stott.
The Gatemen’s next community service event is tomorrow, June 23, in Carver, MA where some of the players will participate in a Little League wiffle ball game.
For Gatemen baseball action, the Gatemen look to bounce back as they take on the Orleans Firebirds in Orleans at 7:00pm. The next home game for the Gatemen is tomorrow, June 23, at 6:30pm when the Gatemen take on the Brewster Whitecaps.
