WAREHAM – The Wareham Gatemen (12-6) look to make it four in a row this weekend as they take on the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox (9-6-2) tonight at 5:30 p.m. at Spillane Field.
The Gatemen enter play todays winners of three straight following a 17-4 rout of the Hyannis Harbor Hawks last night. A 9-run third inning propelled the Gatemen to an easy victory. Wareham also scored runs in the sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth to ensure the easy win.
Bryant Packard and Pavin Parks each hit home runs and were two of the five Gatemen that recorded multiple RBIs in the game. In total, nine different Gatemen recorded an RBI and 10 different Gatemen crossed the plate.
Following the offensive outburst, the Gateman now averaging 5.6 runs per game and have scored 100 runs which is 16 more runs than the next highest team (Bourne). Their run differential is also a league-best plus 27.
“We had just clutch hitting right down the line. You have to get men on base to score them, but everyone in the [starting] lineup had a hit,” Sneddon said following the win. “What I liked is when they got a little closer, we scored a three spot and that ended it right there.”
The YD Red Sox enter tonight’s game in first place in the East Division as they have a one point lead over the Harwich Mariners. The Red Sox have played great baseball over their last 10 games posting a 7-2-1 record.
Last night, the Red Sox got back in the win column after losing Friday night 5-2 against Chatham. YD beat Cotuit 4-1 and got a strong start from Jensen Elliott. He pitched five innings and allowed the only run the Kettleers would score. Andrew Daschbach and Reese Albert provided the offense for YD going a combined 6-7 with a homer, two RBIs, and all four YD runs scored.
Today’s matchup with between the Gatemen and the Red Sox will be the third time these teams have gotten together this season. The two teams split a doubleheader last Sunday as the Gatemen won game one 10-4 before dropping the finale 4-3. The Red Sox will travel back to Wareham one final time on July 24 for the final regular season matchup between these teams.
