CHATHAM – The Wareham Gatemen (15-11) travel back to Veterans Field in Chatham for their final matchup of the season with the Anglers (12-11-2) tonight at 7:00 p.m.
The Gatemen are coming off a tough loss yesterday at the hands of the Whitecaps. Brewster defeated Wareham 8-1 as RHP Tyler Ahearn suffered the loss for Wareham. Ahearn threw three innings and gave up two runs off four hits and one walk. For Brewster, LHP Chris Murphy recorded the win throwing five shutout innings.
As for the Anglers, they are coming off a sweep of the Falmouth Commodores in a doubleheader yesterday. In game one, Chatham won 1-0. The Anglers scored their only run of the game in the first when Adam Fogel recorded an RBI double. In game two, the offense got going for Chatham as they won 7-2. Blake Sabol was the Anglers offensive star in this one as he homered and drove in three runs.
Sahid Valenzuela once again plays second and bats second for Wareham (via Caroline O'Connor).
LHP Ken Waldichuk (1-1, 5.28 ERA) returns to the mound tonight following a nine day absence. In his last outing, Waldichuk pitched three innings in relief against the Bourne Braves in a 5-3 loss. Waldichuk allowed four runs (two earned) while walking two and surrendering five hits. The time before that, Waldichuk was roughed up at Hyannis as he allowed six runs to the Harbor Hawks on June 26.
RHP Davis Daniel (0-0, 0.00 ERA) opposes Waldichuk and makes his fourth appearance of the season tonight. Davis has not allowed a run in his 11.2 innings this season. On top of that, Davis has only allowed two hits all year. In his last time out, Davis threw four hitless innings in a 3-0 loss to the Firebirds on July 4.
Tonight’s matchup marks the fourth and final time these two teams will meet this regular season. The Gatemen have won each of the prior three games by a combined score of 25-10. On opening day, the Gatemen won 12-4 here in Chatham. In the other two matchups, the Gatemen won by scores of 6-3 and 7-3 at Spillane Field in Wareham.
