Game 29 Preview: Proctor faces Veneziano in a pitching duel at Spillane

WAREHAM – The Wareham Gatemen (16-10-1) play the Cotuit Kettleers (12-12-2) for the second day in a row, this time at Spillane Field in Wareham at 6:30 p.m.


The Gatemen and Kettleers played the first of a home-and-home yesterday in a game that resulted in a 2-2 tie. Wareham took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and held a one run lead until the bottom of the ninth.


Ryan Garcia and Easton Lucas turned in stellar outings for Wareham as they combined to go 8.1 innings allowing just two runs to score. Garcia and Lucas dominated the middle innings of the as the pair did not allow a hit from the fourth through the seventh innings.


Cotuit’s Brady Smith tied up the contest when he hit an RBI single with one out in the ninth inning off Zach Hart. Hart escaped the ninth without allowing another run and he worked a scoreless tenth as well. To read last game's recap, click here.


RHP Will Proctor (1-1, 2.89 ERA) makes his sixth appearance and fourth start of the season for Wareham. In his last time out, Proctor went five strong innings allowing one run on just two hits. Proctor is still searching for his second victory of the season as he has not won since his initial appearance on June 15.


Will Proctor looks to improve to 2-0 on the season (via Caroline O'Connor).


LHP Anthony Veneziano (1-0, 1.88 ERA) makes his fourth start of the season for the Kettleers. Veneziano has also been great, like Proctor, this season. Veneziano pitched a season-high six innings last time out against the Harwich Mariners on July 8. He got the win in that start as he gave up just one hit in that outing.
