WAREHAM – The Gatemen (17-11-1) return home to Clem Spillane Field tonight to play against the Harwich Mariners (13-16-1) at 5:30 p.m.
The Gatemen are playing above .500 baseball recently as they are 5-4-1 in their last 10, but they are coming off a loss yesterday to the Falmouth Commodores. Wareham failed to score in a game for the second time this season and they lost to Falmouth 3-0. Tyler Dyson, Mitchell Miller, and Nick Mikolajchak combined to throw a 3-hitter as the trio stymied the Wareham offense all night.
Dyson recorded the win for Falmouth going five shutout innings while striking out eight. Miller did his job in relief of Dyson allowing just one hit over his three innings of scoreless baseball. To close it out, Mikolajchak tossed a scoreless ninth to record the save.
Not much went on for either offense as there were just nine total hits in the game. Jeremy Ydens was the top Gatemen performer on the night recording two of the three Gatemen hits and also stole a base. For Falmouth, Austin Langworthy provided all the offense the Commodores needed homering two times on the night while knocking in all three runs in the game. To read the full game recap, click here.
The Mariners enter play today losers of two straight and hope to right the ship tonight. Harwich lost yesterday 8-3 to the Chatham Anglers. In that game, the Mariners put 19 runners on base while getting just eight people on base themselves. Ty Buckner took the loss for Harwich to fall to 1-3 on the year. Buckner had been excellent in each of his first four starts not allowing more than a run in any appearance, but he surrendered six yesterday.
Today’s matchup with the Mariners is the third of four between these two teams this summer. The first two games have been split with Wareham winning the first matchup 3-2 back on June 13. That game was the first walk-off of the summer for Wareham and was the home opener at Spillane Field. Bryant Packard won the game with a sacrifice fly in the ninth.
The second meeting of these teams occurred exactly one month ago on June 16 when the Mariners handed the Gatemen their first loss of the season. Buckner recorded the win in that outing going four scoreless innings in a 2-0 shutout win.
The Gatemen will take on the Mariners one final time in the regular season on Thursday when they travel back to Whitehouse Field.
RHP Tyler Keysor (0-2, 4.32 ERA) will be on the hill for Wareham making his first start of the summer. In seven appearances to date, Keysor’s longest outing was just 2.1 innings coming against these Harwich Mariners back on June 16. However, making a start today will be nothing new for Keysor who was a starter this past season for Easter Florida State. Out of 14 appearances this collegiate season, Keysor started in 11 of them, while throwing more than six innings in seven of them.
Tyler Keysor gets his first Cape League start tonight (via Caroline O'Connor).
LHP Danny Poidomani (1-1, 3.68 ERA) gets the start for Harwich and will oppose Keysor. Poidomani is making his fifth appearance of the summer and his third against Wareham. In his first two outing s against Wareham, Poidomani went a combined 3.1 innings allowing just one run in addition to recording a loss.
