Game 34 Preview: Bourne visits Wareham in a Battle of the Bridge

WAREHAM – The Gatemen (19-13-1) are back home tonight to play their division rival the Bourne Braves (14-17-1) at Spillane Field at 6:30 p.m.

Wareham snapped their two-game losing streak yesterday when they beat the Harwich Mariners 6-1. Tyler Keysor recorded the win in relief going three shutout innings. Derek West started the game on the mound for Wareham allowing one run over four innings and Cody Carroll finished the game throwing two innings of scoreless relief.

On the offensive side, the Gatemen had some good to go along with the bad. Wareham left 12 runners on base including leaving the bases loaded three times within the first five innings of the game. Yet, the Gatemen still pushed six runs across and every player in the lineup got on base.

The Braves enter play today having lost yesterday 7-3 to YD and are just 3-7 in their last 10. The Red Sox pounded out 17 hits off the Braves pitching staff, including eight off the Bourne starter Justin Lasko.

Isaac Collins is back in the lineup tonight hitting leadoff after an off day yesterday (via Caroline O'Connor).

Despite the fact that Bourne is in last place, they have had success against the Gatemen this summer.

Bourne is 2-1 in their three games against Wareham so far. Bourne won the first two games of the series 4-3 and 5-3 before Wareham blew out the Braves 13-1 the last time these teams met. After today, these two clubs will meet for a home-and-home series for the final two games of the regular season.

RHP Will Proctor (2-1, 2.66 ERA) gets the start after having a week off. In his last outing, Proctor recorded the win on July 13 scattering seven hits over five innings of one run ball. Proctor has faced the Braves once this season, but that was very early in the season back on June 21. In that game, he allowed one run during his one inning of relief.

RHP Bryan Hoeing (2-2, 6.19 ERA) will oppose Proctor and make fifth start of the season tonight. After getting off to a hot start, Hoeing has struggled recently. He allowed just one run in nine innings over his first two outings but has since allowed 13 runs in 11.1 IP since. In addition, Hoeing won his first two outings and now has lost his last two times out. He has faced the Gatemen once already this summer and was lit up for seven runs (five earned) in a loss.

In the ever-changing Cape League, the Gatemen have undergone a few roster changes and have lost two of their main contributors. First, Bryant Packard, who left the Gatemen to joining Team USA, was scheduled to return to Wareham but will not be doing so. Packard got sick with the team in Cuba and this will end his summer of baseball.

Additionally, the Gatemen will be losing LHP Ken Waldichuk. His summer is over as he has hit his innings limit for the season. Waldichuk went 18.1 IP this summer with a 1-1 record with a 4.90 ERA. Minus his rough outing against Hyannis (3.1 IP, 6 R, 7 H), Waldichuk had a 2.40 ERA over his other four appearances.
