Game 38 Preview: Gatemen look to win back-to-back games versus Commodores

WAREHAM – The Gatemen (21-15-1) are back in action at Spillane Field tonight at 6:30 p.m. to play the Falmouth Commodores (19-17-1) for the second day in a row.


Wareham defeated Falmouth yesterday on the road 3-1. Ryan Garcia and Easton Lucas combined to pitch the whole game for the Gatemen with Garcia going six innings to get the win and Lucas throwing three innings record the save.


Isaac Collins, Skyler Hunter, and Gian Martellini each had RBI hits with two outs to provide the Gatemen with their three runs on the evening. To read more about the Wareham win yesterday, click here.


The stellar pitching performance for Wareham lowered their team ERA to 3.43 which is the second lowest in the league behind Falmouth at 3.32.


Oliver Dunn (right) is back in the lineup today hitting seventh as the DH (Caroline O'Connor).


With the win yesterday, the Gatemen are comfortably in position to clinch a playoff spot within the next few days. They are now four points ahead of the Commodores and Kettleers in third place and are just one point back of the Harbor Hawks for first place with seven games remaining on the season.


RHP Will Proctor (2-1, 2.27 ERA) gets the start today for Wareham. The outing today will be the third for Proctor against Falmouth. Proctor made his Gatemen debut against the Commodores back on June 15. He threw 3.2 IP giving up one run while recording the win in relief. In his next appearance against the Commodores, Proctor pitched five innings of one run ball on July 7.


RHP Pat McGowan (1-1, 4.65 ERA) makes the start today for the Commodores in his first appearance against the Gatemen. After giving up eight runs in 6.1 IP to begin his summer (11.37 ERA), McGowan has been on a roll as of late. McGowan has given up just two runs over his last 13 IP (1.39 ERA). Most recently, he recorded his first win of the summer on July 19 when he pitched six innings giving up two runs against Orleans.


Following this game, the Gatemen take on the Commodores for the final time of the regular season tomorrow night back here in Wareham.
