The Wareham Gatemen return home looking to bounce back against the Orleans Firebirds

WAREHAM- The Wareham Gatemen (1-1) were blown out in their last game 7-3 to the Y-D Red Sox and now have another tough test against the Orleans Firebirds (2-1) who have phenomenal pitching striking out 31 batters in the first 3 games.

This is a very different Orleans team than last season. Last summer on the cape the Firebirds struggled posting the worst record in the Cape League (14-29-1), however this summer there are signs of hope for Firebirds fans.

One of the biggest reasons Firebirds fans should be hopeful is the pitching. Firebirds starter Cole Wilcox (Georgia) threw 4 shutout innings Wednesday night in a 5-3 victory over the Brewster Whitecaps. And in the Firebirds first game of the season in a 2-0 win against the Bourne Braves starter Adam Seminaris (Long Beach) was electric throwing 5 shutout innings only allowing 2 hits.

As for the Gatemen there has been several roster moves in the last couple of days. Drew Sims, Quentin Selma, Caleb Wurster, Braiden Ward, Ian Bedell, DJ Poteet, and Lane Flamm all got released.

As for who got activated, Adrian Del Castillo (Miami), Braiden Ward (Washington), Ian Bedell (Missouri), and Jack Enger (Washington) have joined the team. Del Castillo will provide some power to the Gatemen lineup having a great season with the Hurricaines batting .331 with 12 HR and 72 RBI. Enger was great for the Huskies on the mound this season posting a 3-0 record with 61 strikeouts in 45 innings pitched.

Aaron Davenport (Hawaii) making his CCBL is on the mound for the Gatemen. Davenport was 2-5 with a 4.68 in ERA this season for Hawaii.

Jared Leins (Navy), also making his CCBL debut, was 3-1 in 71 innings pitched with an ERA of 3.27 this season for Navy.
