Battle for West Division lead as Wareham Gatemen play Cotuit Kettleers

BARNSTABLE- There will be a new leader in the West Division tonight as the Wareham Gatemen (4-2-1) play the Cotuit Kettleers (4-2-1) on the road in Barnstable at 5 p.m.  


The Wareham Gatemen had their 4 game unbeaten streak ended by the Falmouth Commodores (3-3-1) in a 8-5 loss Monday night. It was a tough night for the Gatemen pitching staff Bryce Elder (Texas) only lasted 1.2 innings walking 5 batters and allowing 2 runs. David Rhodes (Washington) allowed 5 runs on 5 hits in 2.1 innings of work. 


The offense of the Gatemen showed no signs of slowing down. Wareham had 11 hits and the usual suspects continued to play well.  Chad Stevens (Portland) currently leads the CCBL with a .400 batt ing average and was 2-4 with 3 RBI. Jacob Teter (Southern Florida) has burst on to the scene after having a slow start to the season has 4 hits in the last 2 games. 


Darren Baker (California Berkley) had his 6 game-hit streak ended and it was just not his night at the plate striking out 2 times going 0-5. Baker is still batting a phenomenal .355 and had a great night defensively. 


The Cotuit Kettleers are coming off a hard fought double-header with the Y-D Red Sox (3-2). In the first game the Red Sox offense overpowered the Ketleers in a 7-2 game. Christopher Farrell (William & Mary) had a rough outing allowing 6 runs on 8 hits ins 3.1 innings. 

The Kettleers bounced back in the 2ndgame scoring 5 runs in the 7thinning to complete a comeback 9-9 tie. Parker Chavers (Coastal Carolina) was 2-4 with 3 RBI and Adam Oviedo (TCU) was 2-3 hitting 2 solo-home runs. 


Two players were recently activated by the Wareham Gatemen. Ben Leeper (Oklahoma State) in his junior season had a 4.31 ERA in 31.1 innings pitched recording 43 strikeouts. Dallas is Beaver (UCF) is making his CCBL debut tonight and this season had a batting average of .316 with 12 HR and 56 RBI. 


On the mound for the Gatemen is Joseph Baran (East Stroudsburg). Baran struggled against Y-D allowing 2 runs in 1.2 innings pitched. 

The Wareham offense has its work cut out for them with Cotuit starting Evan Justice (NC State). Justice had a decent first outing allowing 2 runs in 3 innings against the Chatham Anglers.
