WAREHAM- Only 6 innings were able to be played in Wareham as the bats cooled off and the outfield struggled to find the ball resulting in runs against
Aaron Davenport (Hawaii) took over for Jonathon Gates (Miami) in the 2ndinning. Gates was scheduled to only play 1 inning from the beginning as he had not pitched since May. After retiring the first 2 batters fast in the 2ndinning, Davenport loaded the bases but escaped with a beautiful strikeout making Chris Galland (Boston College) look silly.
Hariwich came into this game with the fewest home runs in the CCBL, but Tyler Keenan (Ole Miss) launched a 2-run home run in the 4thinning giving the Mariners a 2-0 lead. It was extremely foggy in the outfield so the original call was a double by Keenan, but after further conversation it was a ruled a home run.
Scary moment in the 5thinning as Mike Antico collided with Christian Fedko (Uconn) as Antico was running to 2ndto load the bases. The fog may have had an impact as Fedko failed to see a ball hit by Matt McLain (UCLA) bobbling it allowing Wareham to score making the score 2-1.
William Fleming (Wake Forest) came in for Davenport in the 5thinning with a runner on 1stand 2ndand 1 out. Davenport was solid for the Gatemen pitching 3.1 innings only giving up 2 runs and 4 hits striking out 5 batters. Keenan sent home a run on a single lost in the fog making the score 3-1.
Fedko hit a ball that should have been a fly-out into left field but Tora Otsuka (San Diego) couldn’t see the ball in the fog and a run scored making the score 4-1. The game went into a fog delay after this play and was made official after a 30 minute wait.
Jacob palisch (1-0) was awarded the win pitching 4 scoreless innings only allowing 3 hits and striking out 4 batters. Daveport was handed the loss (0-1), as the Gatemen drop to (5-3-1). Harwich improves to (4-5) and these two teams will meet once again tomorrow in Harwich at 6:30 p.m.
