When five Wareham Gatemen baseball players stopped by Keystone Place in Buzzards Bay on June 19, it was a morning filled with fun activities and laughter, as the players and residents battled it out in Wii bowling and bingo.

As the Gatemen entered the senior residence theater, the residents were quick to introduce themselves and beyond excited to meet the players, but also ready to bring their A-game in the first round of Wii bowling. The teams were split two-on-two, Gatemen vs. Residents. Everyone was giving it their all and being very competitive over three rounds of Wii bowling. Two of the Residents, Lois and Jean, were hitting strikes nearly every time it was their turn to bowl. Each round was competitive and everyone had an amazing time. In the end, the Gatemen players took home the win, but the Keystone residents did a fantastic job and gave the players a run for their money.
The players also visited more residents who were attending morning bingo, and decided to play a few rounds with them. With lollipops on the line, the games were very intense. Some of the Gatemen were able to take home a few bingo wins, but the residents were doing an outstanding job and winning most of the rounds. The Gatemen enjoyed getting to play some games, meet the residents, and have a fun filled morning as part of their community outreach. Keystone Place is just one of many regional settings for a Gatemen visit during their summer in Wareham. Many of the players said they can’t wait to go back, play more games…maybe even sing a little karaoke, but most of all get to talk more with the residents. The players enjoyed getting to know the residents and hear their stories, and the residents loved to spend time with the players as well.

The players who attended this first visit to Keystone were: Garrett Irvin, Eric Torres, Tanner Bibee, Matt Rudick, and Ben Sems. The next time the players will be visiting Keystone is on July 3, 2019. You can also catch these players in action at our next home games: July 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 8th. Thank you so much to Keystone for having the Wareham Gatemen, and we can not wait for our next visit.
