The Wareham Gatemen are coming off a 6-1 loss to the Harwich Mariners. Niko Kavadas (Notre Dame) was the star of the show hitting 3 home runs finishing with 3 HR. Kavadas will partake in the CCBL All-Star Game and Home Run Derby so we should be in for a good show.
Coming into the game the Gatemen were the hottest team in the CCBL winning 4 straight games. Not a lot of cushion was created in the West Division Standings as the Cotuit Kettleers have played just as well and now only sit 1 point behind in 2ndplace.
Wareham had 9 hits in the ball game but ran into lights out pitching staff of the Mariners Harwich used 3 CCBL All-Star pitchers and it was very evident. All 3 pitchers showed no signs of weakness going up against the best offense in the league. Harwich currently sits in last place in the East Division but that has been more of a hitting issue rather than pitching. Harwich is sending 9 players to the All-Star game.
The Brewster White Caps are right above the Harwich Mariners in the East Division standings with a 13-13 record. The White Caps are coming off an impressive victory over the red hot Falmouth Commodores. Connor Shamblin (Alabama) had a line of 6.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 5 SO.
Brewster has had a very inconsistent season. The team at times has looked like one of the best in the CCBL but has also looked weak in a few stretches. Brewster is stock full of talent sending 7 players to the CCBL All-Star game.
Most notably Mason Black (Lehigh) will be on the mound to start. Black is 3-0 on the season in 26.1 IP with an ERA of 1.08. Also starting is T.J Collett (Kentucky), who will be also participating in the home run derby. T.J Collett’s power was on full display during batting practice at Fenway Park as he was launching the ball into the Green Monster at ease. Collett has the 2ndmost HR in the CCBL (5).
Brett Auerbach (Alabama) is not an All-Star starter but is a reserve and is currently red hot. Auerbach is on an 8 game hitting streak. Auerbach has the 15thbest batting average in the CCBL (.291).
Brewster has not been the most effective team on offense. The White Caps have the 3rdworst team batting average (.240) and are in the middle of the pack for pitching ranking 6thin team ERA (3.91).
On the mound for the Whitecaps today is All-Star Matthew Mikulski (Fordham). Mikulski is 1-0 on the season with an ERA of .55 in 16.1 innings pitched with 20 strikeouts. Opposing him is Coy Cobb (Texas). Cobb is 1-0 with a 4.69 ERA in 7.2 innings pitched. Cobb was great his last time out pitching 3 scoreless innings against the Red Sox on July 9th.
