Wareham officially clinch 2nd seed in West but still have business against Bourne tonight

The Wareham Gatemen are coming off possibly their worst loss of the season. The Gatemen lost 14-6 and even resorted to using a position player on the mound. Matthew Rudick (San Diego State) made his first appearance on the mound since playing sparingly in college.

It was that kind of game for the Gatemen but they have a chance at redemption hosting the Bourne Braves at 6:45.

The story of the game was the Bourne offense. Zavier Warren (Central Michigan) was 5-6 with 3 RBI and Brendan Rivoli was 2-3 with 4 RBI. The performances of Jacob Teter (Florida Southern) and Braiden Ward (Washington) was a silver lining for the Gatemen. Ward was 2-3 with a walk, and Teter was 2-3 with 3 RBI.

One of the biggest issues for the Gatemen continues to be pitching. Joseph Baran (East Stroudsburg) had a final line of .1 IP, 4 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO. Quin Cleary (Yale) couldn’t complete an inning either posting a line of .2 IP, 2 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 0 SO.

Standings are now officially set in the West Division. The Falmouth Commodores defeated the Cotuit Kettleers in game 1 of a double header clinching 2ndplace for the Wareham Gatemen. This means that the Gatemen will host the Kettleers in round one of the playoffs and the Commodores will host the Braves.

All eyes will be on Falmouth. The commodores have won 14 out of the last 16 games and have found a perfect balance of offense and defense. This is not to discount how exciting a series between the Gatemen and Kettleers will be. Wareham is 3-3 against Cotuit with no team pulling too far away from the other.

Before the Gatemen shift their attention to the playoffs, they still have two regular season games to focus on. As previously mentioned the Gatemen play the Braves tonight and host the Commodores tomorrow at 6:45 p.m.

On the mound for the Gatemen is Cole Larsen (Kansas). Larsen has a 13.50 ERA in 3.1 innings pitched. In his last appearance Larsen had a line of 0.2 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 0 BB, 0 SO. As for Bourne
